UW Carbone Breast Center

The Breast Center is committed to the prevention, early detection, diagnosis and treatment of breast disease through compassionate and coordinated care. The care offered by UW Health physicians in our Breast Center is frequently rated among the nation's best.

These specialists will work with you to develop your own individualized plan of care. Our Breast Center incorporates outstanding nursing, radiology, pathology, mammography, imaging, social work, psychology, genetic counseling, physical and occupational therapy and nutrition consultation.

At the 600 Highland Ave. Breast Center, you will have access to medical experts from both UW Hospital and Clinics and the UW Carbone Cancer Center (UWCCC). The Breast Center, being a part of the UWCCC, offers you leading-edge cancer diagnosis and treatment. The designation of Comprehensive Cancer Center is one that is selectively bestowed only by the National Cancer Institute. UWCCC is the only one in the state of Wisconsin and one of only a few nationwide.

UWCCC researchers and clinicians have pioneered numerous breast cancer therapies, among them combination chemotherapy for advance cases and use of the drug Tamoxifen to prevent cancer from recurring in post-menopausal women.

The wide range of services offered at the Breast Center includes diagnostic and screening mammograms, breast exams, risk assessment, consultations and biopsies.

At the 1 S. Park Clinic the breast care nurse is certified by the National Consortium of Breast Centers as a Breast Patient Navigator through the entire continuum of brest care: screening, diagnosing and treating breast health conditions. This certification is designed to recognize those people with the knowledge and expertise to assist patients through the complex processes of diagnosis.

The Certified Breast Patient Navigator is available as a contact person and to help people understand each step in diagnosing and treating benign breast conditions and breast cancer. She can assist you with scheduling diagnostic mammorgrams, diganostic breat ultrasounds, breast biopsies and surgical consults. She will also facilitate communication between the specialists caring for your breast health concern and your primary health care provider.
