Obstructed Pancreatic Ducts

UW Health Liver and Pancreas Surgeons in Madison, Wisconsin are experts in the surgical management of pancreas disorders.

The procedure to drain an obstructed pancreatic duct is usually called a Peustow, Frey, or Beger procedure. Draining an obstructed pancreatic duct is used to treat pain associated with chronic pancreatitis. It requires making a long opening in the pancreatic duct and connecting it to a hole in a piece of the intestine, effectively bypassing the area of obstruction. Sometimes part of the pancreas itself is removed as part of this procedure.
