LVAD Patient Referrals

UW Health is one of the nation's leaders in outcomes using left ventricular assist devices for both destination therapy and as a bridge to transplant.

Our team uses a broad spectrum of VADs, tailoring selection to meet each patient's individual needs. In addition, due to the outstanding outcomes for patients on VADs, UW Hospital and Clinics was selected to participate in a pivotal clinical trial of the next generation of the ventricular-assist device.

A variety of VADs have been used successfully at UW Hospital and Clinics to help keep patients with end-stage heart failure alive while awaiting transplant. This is called "bridge to transplant." The majority of VADs implanted at  UW Hospital and Clinics are in this category.

VADs can also be implanted as destination therapy for patients who are not candidates for heart transplantation, as well as for the less common "bridge to recovery."

Please do not submit urgent questions about your medical care through this website. If you are experiencing a life- or limb-threatening emergency, call 911. If your need is urgent, call your clinic for assistance.
