An aortic aneurysm can be fatal. How healthy is your aorta?

UW Health Heart and Vascular Care offers a non-invasive ultrasound test that measures the size of your abdominal aorta. If your aorta is enlarged, it may indicate an aneurysm. Without monitoring and care, an aneurysm can burst and be fatal.

Who Should Be Tested?

This screening is appropriate for men and women age 60 years and older who have any of the following conditions:
  • Coronary artery disease
  • Peripheral artery disease
  • Hypertension
  • Diabetes mellitus

Smokers and people age 50 and older with a family history of abdominal aortic aneurysm are also appropriate candidates for aortic screening.

Screening Information

Each screening is evaluated by a UW Health physician who specializes in vascular disease. Patients receive their preliminary test results immediately following the scan from a registered vascular technologist.

Screenings are offered on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays, by appointment. Each screening is $70 and more than one test can be scheduled in one appointment. To schedule an appointment, call UW Health Preventive Cardiology at (608) 263-7420.
