Overview
What is an E-Visit?
If you are experiencing certain symptoms, you may be able to connect with a provider through a MyChart E-Visit.
E-Visits are available to adults (18 and older) who:
Have seen their UW Health primary care provider
Have an active UW Health MyChart account
Are located in Wisconsin at the time of the E-Visit
Patients under 18 or those who have not yet had their initial primary care appointment are not eligible for E-Visits at this time.
Symptoms that can be evaluated through an E-Visit
E-Visits are for a specific range of symptoms. You can submit an E-Visit for the following symptoms:
Diarrhea
Low back pain
Red eye
Sinus problems
Vaginal discomfort or discharge
Frequent or painful urination (women only)
For symptoms not on this list, consider a Care Anywhere urgent care video visit.
E-Visit steps
How to complete an E-Visit
A typical E-Visit can take 10-15 minutes to complete. You cannot save your progress and return later.
Steps to Start Your E-Visit
Log in to your MyChart account and search for "E-Visits."
Select a symptom from the list of choices.
Answer a series of questions, including any treatments or medications you have already tried. The questions will be tailored to the symptom you selected.
Before submitting, you can preview your responses and make any necessary changes.
Once you confirm the information is complete and accurate, submit the E-Visit to UW Health.
You may cancel your E-Visit at any time before it is submitted.
After You Submit
You will typically receive a response through your MyChart account within 2 hours during business hours
In some cases, a provider may decide it's best to speak with you by phone and will use the contact information you provided
If clinic staff determine you need to be seen in person, your E-Visit will be stopped and you will not be charged
Your MyChart E-Visit will become a permanent part of your UW Health medical record, accessible to your entire care team now and in the future. We will also send a copy to your UW Health primary care provider to keep them informed.
If your symptoms worsen and you feel you need to be seen, you should call your primary care clinic or a UW Health urgent care clinic.
Submitting an E-Visit for someone else
For patient safety and to ensure the accuracy of your medical record, do not submit E-Visits for other people from your MyChart account. This applies even to spouses, parents, or others who are covered by the same insurance plan. Submitting information for someone else would make your record incorrect and could compromise their care. By submitting only your own medical information, you help us ensure that your medical record contains the correct information for your care, now and in the future.
If you have MyChart proxy access for another person over 18, you can submit an E-Visit for them directly from their account. To do so, simply click the button with their name in the "Accounts" bar at the top of the screen to connect to their account, and then proceed with the E-Visit.
E-Visit hours and fees
E-Visits are handled by a UW Health provider, such as a physician assistant, nurse practitioner, or physician, working in an urgent care or primary care clinic.
A UW Health provider will follow up on an E-Visit:
Within 2 hours of submission during business hours
By 10 a.m. the next morning for visits submitted after business hours
E-Visit business hours
Monday–Friday: 8 a.m.–7 p.m.
Saturdays, Sundays and holidays: 8 a.m.–4 p.m.
Do not use E-Visits for emergencies. If you are experiencing a life- or limb-threatening emergency, call 911 immediately.
E-Visit fees
For the most up to date E-Visit price information, please log in to your MyChart account. If you're asked to schedule an in-person visit for your concern, you will not be charged for the E-Visit. If you cancel your E-Visit at any point before submitting, you will not be charged. UW Health will submit an insurance claim for your E-Visit on your behalf. Coverage varies by insurance plan, but some Quartz plans cover the full cost. Contact your insurance provider for questions about what your plan coverage. You will be billed after a provider reviews your visit, based on your insurance coverage and any remaining balance. The E-Visit fee includes the review of your answers, review of your medical record and treatment recommendations. The fee does not cover the cost of other services such as prescription drugs, laboratory tests or X-rays, if they are needed. Your Medical Flexible Spending Account (FSA) may cover the cost of an E-Visit. Check with your FSA program to see if this is a covered expense.
