About

Yu Xia, MD, is a UW Health cardiothoracic and heart and lung transplant surgeon. Dr. Xia is also a assistant professor in the Department of Surgery, Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health.

Dr. Xia performs the full spectrum of adult cardiac (heart) surgery, including coronary artery bypass, grafting, valve repair and replacement and aorta (main artery) repair. He has a special interest in treating heart and lung failure using techniques that range from temporary mechanical support to organ transplant.

Dr. Xia practices patient-centered care with shared decision-making. He listens closely to his patients’ concerns and offers support and education to ease their fear. After explaining their condition and treatment options, Dr. Xia partners with them to develop a personalized care plan that works best for their goals.

In addition to his clinical and teaching roles, Dr. Xia conducts research focused on heart and lung transplant clinical outcomes. He works closely with national registries to expand the pool of potential heart and lung donors, while maintaining the quality of transplant care.

In his free time, Dr. Xia enjoys spending time with his family.

My goal is to help my patients live longer, fuller lives.
