Tonya Lawfer is a Licensed Professional Counselor with a Substance Abuse Specialty who earned her Master of Science degree in Educational Psychology: Community Counseling at UW-Milwaukee. Tonya is experienced in providing individual and group psychotherapy to adults with mental health and substance use concerns. She treats a wide range of mental health concerns including depression, anxiety, PTSD, severe and persistent mental illness such as schizophrenia and bipolar disorder and dissociative disorders. She is also interested in addressing sexual health concerns, exploring LGBTQ+ issues, and promoting a sex-positive, safe therapeutic space for clients. Tonya offers Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) for the treatment of trauma and is skilled in providing other evidence-based treatment such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), mindfulness, Motivational Interviewing, and Behavioral Activation. She strongly believes in a positive, person-centered, non-judgmental and recovery-oriented approach in her work.
