Sandesh Parajuli, MD, is a UW Health transplant nephrologist (kidney transplant doctor) and transplant medicine specialist. He is also a associate professor n the Department of Medicine at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. Dr. Parajuli cares for patients with advanced kidney or pancreas disease before and after organ transplant surgery. He focuses on their medical care and health. He discusses their condition and addresses questions or concerns. He tells them what to expect and how to stay healthy and safe after an organ transplant. He is part of a multispecialty UW Health team with more than 65 years of transplant success. The group includes case managers, surgical and medical teams, social workers, dietitians, pharmacist coordinators and other specialists. They’re continually in touch with the patient and the providers involved in that patient’s care. Dr. Parajuli conducts clinical studies and translational research, which translates scientific findings to patient care. He works with medical students, residents, fellows and other colleagues on research, including the evaluation of difficult-to-treat infections. They also study antibody-mediated organ rejection to prevent setbacks and improve transplant outcomes. In his free time, Dr. Parajuli enjoys playing sports, including tennis, lawn tennis, ping-pong, soccer and cricket. The most rewarding part of my job is seeing a smile on my patient’s face. After treatment, they’re grateful and happy that they feel better and can get back to a more normal life.
