Saajidha Rizvydeen, MD, is a UW Health neonatologist. She treats infants admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). Dr. Rizvydeen cares for babies with a wide range of conditions, including preterm birth, critical illnesses, respiratory distress and infections. She optimizes ventilation (breathing) strategies in extremely preterm infants. She also works to increase the number of infants fed breast milk. Dr. Rizvydeen’s patient care philosophy centers on compassionate, evidence-based care that includes collaboration with families. Her goal is to offer support that fosters holistic infant well-being from the start. In addition to her clinical role, Dr. Rizvydeen contributes to scholarly (serious and detailed) research projects. Her research topics include improving patient-provider relationships, understanding the needs and stressors of birthing and non-birthing parents and improving support for fathers with infants in the NICU. She is currently involved in quality improvement research focused on improving nutrition and neurodevelopmental outcomes of babies in the NICU. In her free time, Dr. Rizvydeen enjoys traveling with her family, trying different cuisines, biking nature trails and playing tennis. I have devoted my career to improving the health outcomes of the most vulnerable patients — preterm and critically ill infants.
