Ryan M. McAdams, MD

About

Ryan McAdams, MD, is a UW Health Kids neonatologist and a professor in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, Division of Neonatology and Newborn Nursery. He is also the neonatology division chief and a member of the Division of Global Pediatrics. He cares for babies that are premature (born too early) or who have complex health conditions.

Dr. McAdams knows that having a premature or sick newborn is stressful for families and he empathizes with them. Premature babies often need help with breathing, nutrition and certain diseases. His philosophy is to partner with the families to offer expertise and help them make the best decisions for their children.

Over the last decade, Dr. McAdams has pursued a special interest in researching and preventing brain injuries like neonatal encephalopathy in newborns. He participates in many research projects and is interested the ways artificial intelligence and machine learning will inform future patient care decisions.

Outside of the office, Dr. McAdams enjoys painting with acrylic and mixed media, pulling inspiration from stories at work or from his global travels.

When someone lets me take care of their newborn, I treasure that opportunity. I never take that for granted. We need to provide the best care for every baby everywhere so they can survive and thrive.
