About

Michael Puruckherr, MD, is a UW Health pulmonologist and sleep medicine physician and Director of the Sleep Lab.

Dr. Puruckherr treats people with lung diseases and sleep conditions. These include asthma, COPD (a disease that makes breathing difficult) and fibrosis (scar tissue in the lungs). Dr. Puruckherr also treats sleep apnea (when breathing stops and starts during sleep), restless legs syndrome (uncomfortable leg movements) and narcolepsy (excessive daytime sleepiness). He uses the latest technology to diagnose and care for his patients.

During office visits, Dr. Puruckherr gives each person his full attention, just as he would give a family member. He listens to their concerns and educates them about their conditions using words that are easy to understand. He outlines their treatment options and helps them make decisions to treat their disorders in the best way possible.

Dr. Puruckherr creates personalized care plans that relieve each patient’s symptoms and help them feel better and enjoy life.

During his free time, Dr. Puruckherr enjoys traveling (especially to see his family in Germany), walking, playing chess and cooking.

It’s exciting when patients return after treatment and say they can breathe so much easier or sleep so much better — and now they enjoy life more.
