About
John Soehl, MD, is a UW Health maternal fetal medicine doctor and an assistant professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. He cares for patients with high risk or complicated pregnancies and works closely with teams across the health system to support both parents and baby throughout pregnancy. Dr. Soehl values the academic environment at UW Health and is committed to providing thoughtful, evidence-based care to patients from across the region.
Dr. Soehl’s clinical work focuses on caring for pregnancies that need extra attention because of medical conditions in the parent or concerns about the baby. This includes conditions such as diabetes, autoimmune disorders, multiple gestation and findings on ultrasound that may require closer monitoring. He also has a strong interest in perinatal mental health and is engaged in research to better identify and support patients who may face emotional or mental health challenges during pregnancy. His goal is to help patients understand their conditions and feel supported as they navigate complex situations.
In his approach to care, Dr. Soehl believes strongly in listening, clear communication and meeting patients where they are. He works to explain medical information in a way that feels understandable and meaningful, so patients leave each visit knowing what is happening, why it matters and what to expect next. He aims to provide the same care and attention he would want for his own loved ones, especially during moments of uncertainty. He hopes every person feels heard, respected, and confident in their care plan.
Outside of work, Dr. Soehl enjoys life in Madison and takes full advantage of the many running paths and bike trails in the area. He also enjoys solving and creating puzzles, a hobby he developed while making handmade puzzle gifts for friends and family. These creative and outdoor interests help him recharge and stay grounded, bringing balance to his work caring for patients and families.
