About

Jessica Derks, NP, is a UW Health Kids nurse practitioner who specializes in neonatology. Jessica cares for newborns who have complex health needs, including babies who were born prematurely and babies who need surgical care.

As a neonatal nurse practitioner, Jessica commonly provides pre- and post-operative care for babies who have undergone bowel perforation repair surgery and heart surgery. She also cares for babies who have congenital diaphragmatic hernias, or CDH (hole in the chest formed at birth).

Jessica believes that being on the same page with families is the core of neonatology care. She uses a patient-centered approach to care and takes the time to educate families about their baby’s condition and treatment options. She listens carefully to understand their needs and offers emotional support as well as medical care. Jessica enjoys building bonds and trusting relationships with patients and their families.

Outside of work, Jessica enjoys spending time with her kids.

I love caring for surgical babies — seeing them come in so sick and fragile and then getting to see them go home with their families is a privilege.
