Jennifer Winchell, NP, is a UW Health nurse practitioner specializing in neurosurgery. Jennifer provides advanced care for people with brain tumors and cerebrovascular disorders (relating to brain and blood vessels) such as strokes, aneurysms, vascular malformations (irregular blood vessel structures) and other issues that involve blood flow in the brain. She also cares for patients in the hospital with traumatic injuries. Jennifer follows a whole-person care philosophy when working with patients. In addition to providing medical care, she works to ease her patients’ fears and anxieties. She listens to their concerns, educates them about their conditions and offers emotional support. If patients need surgery, she explains the process and what type of care and rehabilitation they will need when they leave the hospital. For Jennifer, the most rewarding part of her job is helping patients improve and watching them go home and return to activities they enjoy. During her free time, Jennifer enjoys reading, boating and spending time with family. My hope for every patient is that they feel understood and well cared for.
