Dr. Jeff Pothof serves as the chief quality officer for UW Health. In this role, he leads initiatives to improve health care quality, safety, affordability and patient experiences. Dr. Pothof is also an emergency flight physician for UW Health Med Flight. As an emergency flight physician, he treats patients in the field facing critical conditions that include breathing difficulties, chest pain, severe infections, head and neck injuries, strokes and burns.
Dr. Pothof became a doctor so he could have a meaningful, positive impact on the lives of patients experiencing the worst days of their lives. To provide the best emergency care, he considers the most relevant medical evidence that aligns with a patient’s personal experiences, values and perspectives. When his patients cannot communicate, given the severity of their conditions, he seeks to treat them like family members, keeping their best interests in mind.
In his free time, Dr. Pothof enjoys hiking, fishing and traveling with his family.
Dr. Pothof’s research centers around quality, safety and emergency department operations.
