Deirdre A. Burns, MD

About

Deirdre Burns, MD, is a UW Health Kids pediatrician and a clinical associate professor at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, Department of Pediatrics. She provides comprehensive care and treatment for common illnesses in young children and teenagers.

Dr. Burns specializes in diagnosing and treating a wide range of pediatric conditions, including colds, ear infections, rashes, asthma and allergies, behavioral problems, mental health and dermatological concerns.

After volunteering as a classroom aide for children with cleft palates and other underlying health conditions, Dr. Burns discovered her love of medicine. With over 30 years of experience in her field, she enjoys helping her patients thrive from infancy to young adulthood.

Dr. Burns always makes time to listen to her patients and their families and address their immediate issues and questions. As an advocate for the younger population, she firmly believes there are many ways to approach a problem and is dedicated to finding solutions that fit each patient’s personal needs. She also focuses on preventive care and excels at shared decision-making and open communication.

In her free time, Dr. Burns can be found hiking, enjoying the outdoors or cooking up a platter of her specialty dish: Thai tiger shrimp.

The most rewarding part of my job is reassuring patients and parents that they are on a path to a healthier life.
