Danielle DiGennaro, NP, is a UW Health nurse practitioner who specializes in palliative care medicine. She helps seriously ill patients manage pain and other symptoms while they’re in the hospital.
Danielle treats patients who have complex or high-risk illnesses and medical conditions. Her patients include geriatric (older) individuals with additional age-related challenges and health concerns.
Danielle collaborates with other providers to understand and address changing conditions and treatment needs. She integrates medical treatments and other therapies and support to keep patients as comfortable and pain-free as possible. Her goals include helping patients achieve an enhanced quality of life and improving the hospital experience for patients and families.
When caring for patients, Danielle remains attentive to the needs of their family. She listens to their concerns and addresses common stressors experienced when a loved one is seriously ill. She helps them through difficult times as she helps them clarify and achieve their goals. Danielle offers personalized guidance about symptom management and other ways to help their loved ones.
In her free time, Danielle enjoys spending time outdoors. She likes gardening, biking, hiking, skiing and walking her dog.
I entered medicine to provide equitable care to patients. My past experience in public health helped make me more aware of health care inequities like homelessness and inability to afford prescribed medications.
