Daniel Jackson, MD, is a UW Health Kids pediatric allergist and a tenured professor at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, Department of Pediatrics, Division of Allergy, Immunology and Rheumatology. Dr. Jackson cares for children with allergies and immune disorders, including asthma and food allergies. He also provides care for atopic dermatitis (eczema), urticaria (skin condition due to food allergies), recurrent infections and immune system problems. Dr. Jackson has a special interest in treating children with asthma. He works with the child and their family to develop the best plan for each individual child. By using a shared decision making approach, Dr. Jackson involves patients and families as active members of the care team. That way, the plan is most realistic for the child and most likely to bring the best possible outcomes. He enjoys following his patients long-term and developing meaningful relationships with them and their families. The most rewarding part of his job is helping kids improve their quality of life. Dr. Jackson conducts research related to childhood asthma, including the causes of asthma attacks and how certain viruses affect asthma development in kids. He is the principal investigator of the National Institutes of Health research consortium on the special challenges that kids with asthma face in urban settings. Outside of the clinic, Dr. Jackson enjoys spending time with his children. The most exciting part of my profession is the opportunity to take care of kids and to help improve their quality of life.
