Corey Smith, NP, is a UW Health nurse practitioner who specializes in pulmonary and critical care medicine. Corey cares for hospitalized patients with life-threatening medical conditions who are spending time in the intensive care unit (ICU).
Corey is part of a team of critical care experts working together in a multispecialty trauma and life support center. He cares for patients with various acute (sudden) or chronic (ongoing) illnesses, injuries and diseases. These range from heart and lung diseases to stroke and multiple traumatic injuries. Many of her patients are at risk of complications such as respiratory (lung and breathing) failure, heart, kidney or liver failure, and bacterial, viral or other types of infection.
By helping his patients navigate the demanding ICU environment, Corey ensures their medical decisions respect each patient’s goals and wishes and strives to create meaningful partnerships with patients and their families. He is honored to work with patients and family members to explain the medical care, procedures and conditions he treats in the ICU.
