About
Ankur Prasad is a UW Health pulmonary and critical care medicine doctor who cares for people with a wide range of lung conditions. He is also a clinical assistant professor in the Department of Medicine at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health where he collaborates closely with specialists across many fields to support patients through diagnosis, treatment and follow up care.
Dr. Prasad’s clinical focus includes caring for people with lung cancer and lung nodules, helping answer important diagnostic questions so patients can move forward with treatment. He also treats conditions involving fluid around the lungs caused by cancer or other illnesses such as heart or kidney disease. Another key area of his work is helping patients with advanced emphysema or COPD breathe more comfortably, including the use of endobronchial valves, which are small devices placed in the lungs to improve airflow. He enjoys working with new tools and techniques in interventional pulmonology and values the constant collaboration within this growing field.
Dr. Prasad believes that good care begins with clear, honest communication. Many of his patients arrive with serious concerns and he strives to talk with them in a way that is easy to understand. He takes time to explain each step, often repeating information so patients and their families feel supported and informed. He listens carefully to understand what matters most to each person and works toward shared goals that combine medical expertise with the patient’s own needs and hopes. He values teamwork, both with his patients and with the trusted colleagues who help ensure care moves forward without delay.
Outside of work, Dr. Prasad enjoys spending time with his two children. In the free moments he finds, he likes gaming and storytelling, interests that bring creativity and balance to his busy life.
