About

Amber Shada, MD, FACS, is a UW Health general surgeon who specializes in minimally invasive surgery. She also serves as a associate professor at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health in the Department of Surgery.

Dr. Shada treats people with acid reflux and other motility disorders (problems with the way food passes through the esophagus or stomach). She also treats abdominal wall hernias (bulges), gallbladder disorders and other issues involving the digestive system.

Dr. Shada performs surgery using advanced, minimally invasive techniques. She has special expertise in endoscopic and laparoscopic surgery (using a small tube with a scope and only a few small incisions).

During office visits, Dr. Shada talks with her patients about their disorders and outlines their treatment options. She believes it’s important to give patients the facts, answer their questions and encourage them to make their own decisions about their treatment.

To advance patient care, Dr. Shada researches the results of foregut surgery (which corrects problems with the esophagus and stomach). She also studies patients’ quality of life after surgery for acid reflux and other digestive system disorders.

During her free time, Dr. Shada enjoys exercise, weightlifting, horseback riding and spending time with family.

It’s heartwarming when patients come back after surgery and tell me how much better they feel and how different their life is.
