About

Alexander Chiu, MD, is a UW Health surgeon and an assistant professor in the Department of Surgery, Division of Endocrine Surgery at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health.

Dr. Chiu specializes in the surgical treatment of conditions affecting the endocrine system, which includes the thyroid, parathyroid and adrenal glands. Some of the common conditions he treats are thyroid cancer, hyperparathyroidism and adrenal diseases. He has a special clinical interest in removing adrenal tumors.

Dr. Chui encourages patients to participate in medical decisions so their care can be tailored to their individual needs. He listens carefully to understand his patients’ concerns and educates them about their conditions. He also explains what they can expect from surgical intervention and outlines post-operative care.

Dr. Chui believes all patients should have equitable access to medical and surgical care, so his research focuses on disparities in health care. Some of his research looks specifically at elderly patients and the barriers they face getting adequate care for parathyroid disease.

Outside of work, Dr. Chiu stays busy with his young children. His favorite activity is going on bike rides with them and getting ice cream afterwards.

A key aspect of patient care is making sure everyone is on the same page.
