As a certified nurse-midwife, Denise Fryzelka addresses both maternity care and primary health care needs of women. Health promotion, education and disease prevention, as well as individualized care for diverse populations, are critical components of the care provided throughout a woman's life, including care in pregnancy, labor, birth and the post-partum period. UW Health Nurse Midwives attend birth at the Birthing Center at UnityPoint Health-Meriter Hospital.

About Certified Nurse Midwives (CNMs)

At UW Health, certified nurse midwives provide direct counseling and care during pre-conception, pregnancy, childbirth, the postpartum period, and throughout women's reproductive lives. They work in a variety of settings including the clinic and hospital. A certified nurse midwife is a registered nurse with a master's or doctorate degree. They have advanced education, training and certification in the diagnosis, management, prevention, and treatment of common and complex medical conditions related to the health of women and infants, as well as reproductive health. Certified Nurse Midwives are also referred to as advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs) and advanced practice providers (APPs).
