Payment Expectations

When is Payment Expected

 

For non-emergent services, we ask that you pay your out-of-pocket costs (copayment, co-insurance, deductible) upon arrival in outpatient clinics or have a plan in place for paying your estimated out-of-pocket costs prior to your date of service. This estimated out of pocket cost would be communicated to you via an estimate and/or requested upon arrival (i.e. copayment collection in outpatient clinics). Your plan may include:

  • Payment in full pre-service
  • Setting up a payment plan
  • Applying for financial assistance 

If you need help identifying a financial plan, please reach out to a financial counselor who can assist you. 

 

If you are not insured, UW Health does offer a self pay discount. Depending on the service you are receiving, you may be asked to prepay.

 

This policy does not apply to persons who seek emergency services. In compliance with Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act (EMTALA), UW Health will provide a medical screen examination and necessary stabilizing treatment for emergency medical conditions and labor regardless of ability to pay.

 

If You Are Unable to Pay Before or at the Time of Service

 

UW Health will not deny access to emergent or urgent care. We will work with you to assure that you receive the care you need when you need it. Our team of financial counselors can work with you to review government program eligibility, set up payment plans, identify other possible coverage options, and discuss our financial assistance program where applicable.
