Fertility preservation

Helping you plan for the future

Can my partner and I still start or build a family if I will be having cancer treatment? At Generations Fertility Care, we offer patients several options to preserve fertility, including cryopresevation (freezing) of sperm or eggs for future use.

Overview

Conception beyond cancer

If you have cancer, you may have concerns about how your disease or treatments will affect your ability to have a child. The team at UW Health and Generations Fertility Care wants to give people with cancer the best chance at becoming parents. We offer the latest treatment options to help you preserve your fertility.

Treatments

A range of fertility preservation options

If you have cancer, treatment should not be delayed. But it is important to know how certain cancers and cancer treatments can impact long-term fertility.

Cancer of the reproductive organs and surgical treatment for these cancers can lead to infertility. Fertility can be affected by other cancer treatments, including chemotherapy and radiation therapy.

Your cancer care team will talk with you about how your specific cancer treatment might affect your fertility.

UW Health Generations Fertility Care can assist you and your cancer care team with fertility preservation options. Treatments we offer include:

Financial assistance

Your insurance might not cover cancer-related fertility care. Generations Family Care partners with the Livestrong Foundation’s Livestrong Fertility Program to offer discounted fertility care options for men and women with cancer.

The University of Wisconsin Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology has also developed the Stork Fund. Donations to this fund will support couples and individuals who wish to pursue fertility preservation.
