Conditions and treatments

Conditions affecting the kidneys

Healthy kidneys filter waste and water from the blood to create urine. If kidneys are damaged, they can’t work correctly. Over time, this can lead to kidney disease.

Children can be born with a kidney condition or develop one as they age.

Experience with a wide range of conditions

Some kidney conditions, such as kidney stones and urinary tract infections, are common and easily treatable. Others are rare or more complex to treat.

Our pediatric nephrologists evaluate and treat a wide range of kidney conditions. These include:

  • Acute kidney failure (renal failure)

  • Bone problems related to kidney disorders

  • Calcium disorders and renal bone disease

  • Congenital kidney abnormalities

  • Cystic kidney disease

  • Electrolyte abnormalities

  • High blood pressure (hypertension)

  • Inflammatory conditions of the kidney

  • Kidney stones

  • Nephritis

  • Nephrotic syndrome

  • Pediatric metabolic syndrome

  • Renal insufficiency

  • Urinary tract infection (UTI)
