Travis Rumery, DO, is a UW Health ophthalmologist. He’s also an assistant professor in the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health.
Dr. Rumery cares for patients with a wide range of eye disorders. These include cataracts, glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration, diabetic eye disease and more. He has a particular interest in cataract surgery and laser eye surgery, which can offer life-changing improvements in vision.
It’s rewarding for Dr. Rumery to connect with patients on a personal level. During one-on-one discussions, he takes time to ease concerns and uncertainty around their symptoms. Together, they’ll work to build a care plan that can improve the patient's overall quality of life.
Education is a big part of Dr. Rumery’s practice. He teaches patients about their eye anatomy so they understand how certain conditions affect their vision.
Dr. Rumery never wants to dictate his patients’ care. Instead, he gives them the knowledge they need to feel confident when making treatment decisions. His goal is for every patient to leave their visit feeling heard and supported.
In his free time, Dr. Rumery enjoys spending time outdoors and hiking with his family, especially at Lake Superior.
It’s important for patients to understand all the different treatment options for their eye condition. I let them know that they’re in the driver’s seat in terms of making decisions for their care.
