Neetika Garg, MD, is a UW Health transplant nephrologist (kidney specialist) and associate professor in the Department of Medicine, Division of Nephrology at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. Dr. Garg diagnoses and treats end-stage kidney disease, pancreatic disorders and kidney injuries that may require organ transplant surgery. She also treats conditions that can cause kidney failure such as diabetes, high blood pressure, glomerular (kidney filtering) diseases and polycystic kidney disease (PKD). Dr. Garg cares for patients who need or are receiving dialysis therapy to support failing kidneys. Her specialty is kidney and combined kidney and pancreas transplant care. Using a variety of treatment options, she provides care before and after transplant surgery, helping patients manage medications to prevent organ rejection. As part of a multispecialty team that determines whether receiving an organ is a good option for patients, Dr. Garg evaluates the health of living kidney donors and the health and compatibility of donor organs. She also researches the best ways to achieve positive results from kidney transplant surgery, with a special focus on higher-risk patients. In her free time, Dr. Garg enjoys gardening, hiking, traveling and dining out with her family. Kidney donors are amazing people who make it possible for others to live.
