About

Mihaela Bazalakova, MD, is a UW Health neurologist and sleep medicine doctor. Dr. Bazalakova is also an associate professor in the Department of Neurology at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. She cares for patients with insomnia, fatigue, excessive sleepiness, sleep apnea (disrupted breathing during sleep), restless legs syndrome and other sleep disorders. She has a special interest in treating pregnancy-related sleep apnea for healthier pregnancies, deliveries and babies.

Dr. Bazalakova evaluates symptoms such as snoring, difficulty falling or staying asleep and excessive daytime sleepiness and fatigue. She listens to patients’ concerns and educates them about their condition and healthy sleep habits. She discusses possible treatment approaches such as lifestyle changes, medication, medical devices and overnight sleep-clinic evaluation. When diagnosing patients, Dr. Bazalakova assesses whether their sleep disorders might be symptoms of, or worsening, other medical conditions.

In addition to patient care and teaching, Dr. Bazalakova researches sleep patterns during pregnancy and the effect of sleep disturbances on pregnancy health and outcomes.

Outside of work, Dr. Bazalakova enjoys spending time with her family, traveling and exploring new cuisines and music.

I just love being able to help my patients feel better and live their best lives.
