Jeniel Nett, MD, PhD, is a UW Health infectious disease doctor. She’s also an associate professor and researcher at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health in the Department of Medicine. Dr. Nett diagnoses and treats adults in the hospital and clinic. Her patients have a wide range of infections, including those that are difficult to treat and those that return. She investigates ways to effectively manage these infections and how to prevent them altogether. During visits, Dr. Nett takes time to talk with each patient about their particular illness and how it impacts their overall health. She outlines several treatment options, which may include antibiotics, antifungal therapies or something else. She explains the risks and benefits of each treatment and encourages questions. Together, Dr. Nett and her patients create care plans to help them get better. Fascinated with the study of infectious diseases, Dr. Nett also researches new ways to diagnose and treat fungal infections. She works to learn how these infectious diseases change over time, how drug resistance develops, and how to provide the most effective treatments. During her free time, Dr. Nett enjoys spending time with family, traveling, hiking and running. My goal is to identify the right treatment for each patient and help them recover so they can return to their daily lives.
