Eric Johannsen, MD, is a UW Health infectious disease doctor. He’s also an associate professor in the Department of Medicine, Division of Infectious Disease at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. With more than 20 years of experience, Dr. Johannsen uses his expertise to diagnose infectious conditions and guide care for people with infections. He collaborates with specialists from several fields to ensure that patients get clear answers and appropriate, effective care. Dr. Johannsen builds a connection with his patients and works to ease their fears. He listens closely and educates them about their conditions and treatment options. Actively involved in research, Dr. Johannsen studies herpes viruses, specifically the Epstein-Barr Virus. He’s focused on understanding how these viruses may play a role in cancer development. Outside of work, Dr. Johannsen likes hiking and camping. He’s an avid animal lover and especially enjoys time with his Newfoundland dog. I hope to help my patients get back to doing what they find most fulfilling.
