About

Dean Demarais, PA, is a UW Health physician assistant. Dean works with a multidisciplinary team to provide perioperative care, providing support before, during and after cardiac (heart) surgery.

Dean cares for patients of all ages with congenital (present at birth) heart disease. He regularly cares for patients undergoing surgery for holes in the heart and problems with the aorta, a major blood vessel of the heart. He also assists with heart transplant and heart valve repair surgeries.

As a cardiac surgery physician assistant, Dean thinks of himself as a “third set of eyes” in the operating room. From his unique vantage point, he can make recommendations in real time that allow the surgical team to have a more comprehensive view of the situation.

An important part of Dean’s role is to communicate with patients and families. He listens to their concerns and provides information to ease their anxiety and help them make informed decisions about their care.

Outside of work, Dean enjoys fishing, hiking and woodworking.

Everyone at UW Health is working together to provide the best possible care for every patient.
