Bob Gillespie, PhD, is a certified mindfulness instructor who teaches with the UW Health Mindfulness program.

As a licensed psychotherapist, Bob specializes in mindfulness-oriented and trauma-informed therapy, including mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR), mindful self-compassion, yoga and somatic experiencing, which integrates the nervous system and body to resolve trauma.

Bob helps teens, adults, couples and families reduce suffering and improve well-being. He trains mindfulness teachers and leads mindfulness retreats. He has presented internationally on mindfulness applications. Bob understands people’s struggles and has personal experience with the effectiveness of mindfulness therapies. These approaches helped support his recovery from addiction and chronic, debilitating post-concussion symptoms.

Bob enjoys exploring ways to integrate mindfulness into intimate relationships, parenting and chronic health issues. He also applies mindfulness approaches to social justice goals. He collaborates with class participants and patients, honoring their dignity and incorporating their ideas.

In his free time, he loves snowboarding, cycling, hiking, writing, reading science fiction and fantasy and following Philadelphia pro sports teams. He loves traveling with his wife and son and relaxing with their cats.

I understand the terrain of suffering and feel called to help people through the most difficult times in their lives.
