Doctors and nurses at Wisconsin General Hospital, located at 1300 University Avenue, started seeing patients in September 1924. Fifty years later, to combat overcrowding and improve the patient and family experience, as well as to expand opportunities for advanced medical care and research, construction began on an innovative complex of buildings on the western edge of the UW-Madison campus. UW Hospital and Clinics, part of the Clinical Science Center, or CSC, opened its doors on Highland Avenue in 1979.
Today, we're proud to introduce to Wisconsin and the Midwest one of the most advanced hospitals and wellness centers in the country: UW Health at The American Center, which opened to patients on Aug. 17, 2015. Click through this timeline to see how UW Health has provided care to hundreds of thousands of patients and families in our community for nearly a century.
