About

Shaji Faisal, MD, is a UW Health anesthesiologist and a clinical assistant professor in the Department of Anesthesiology at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health.

Dr. Faisal specializes in anesthesia and perioperative intensive care for people with underlying heart conditions. He has a strong clinical interest in caring for adults and children born with congenital heart disease, meaning heart conditions present at birth. His work includes supporting patients with advanced heart failure as well as newborns with complex heart problems who need surgery early in life. This broad experience allows him to adapt care to each patient’s age, size, and specific heart condition.

Dr. Faisal was drawn to medicine by a lifelong curiosity about how the human body works and a desire to use that knowledge to help others. His approach to patient care is grounded in preparation, calm focus and safety. He believes that careful planning and steady decision making are key to achieving the best possible outcomes. Whether caring for an adult or a very small infant, he prioritizes patient safety and works to ensure families feel confident in the care being provided.

Outside of the hospital, Dr. Faisal enjoys staying active by playing tennis and basketball. He also likes reading science fiction and fantasy novels and spending time watching Warriors basketball, usually with optimism. These interests help him recharge and bring balance to his professional life, allowing him to stay focused and present for his patients and their families.
