About

Lacey Kumar, NP, is a UW Health nurse practitioner specializing in organ transplant surgery. She cares for patients who need abdominal transplant surgery for diabetes-related disorders, kidney disease, liver disease or traumatic injuries.

Lacey evaluates and treats patients before and after pancreas, kidney or liver transplant surgery. Her specialties include renal auto transplant surgery (moving a painful kidney into the lower pelvis).

When meeting with transplant patients and organ donors, Lacey listens to and addresses their concerns. She ensures that they’re medically and emotionally prepared for transplant surgery. Lacey tells patients what to do and expect through every stage of care, from preparation through recovery and follow-up appointments. She informs patients and families about ways to prevent complications and achieve long-term success.

As part of a comprehensive care team, Lacey participates in pre-transplant reviews for each patient. The team assesses the patient’s medical condition before scheduling a multispecialty committee meeting for in-depth evaluation. Lacey’s patient-centered approach includes helping patients and their families through every step of the transplant journey.

Outside of work, Lacey enjoys boating, hiking and outdoor activities with family and friends and relaxing at home along with the family’s cats.

I enjoy helping patients and seeing them progress through difficult times — the positive outcomes are very rewarding.
