Charter Media Partnership: Real Stories Inspire Real Increase in Donor Registry
The UW Organ and Tissue Donation strives to build and maintain relationships and partnerships that work to increase organ donation. A recent partnership with Charter Media is doing just that - educating viewers and inspiring donors - from the comfort of their own couches.
The OTD gratefully accepted an opportunity to partner with Charter Media to produce and air three commercials promoting organ donation. Charter generously donated their time and talent, as well as on-air time.
The commercials educate viewers about the importance of registering as a donor, and include several transplant recipients. Their personal messages and heartfelt appearances remind us that any one, of any age and any race can become an organ donor or benefit from the gift of life. The commercials are making a difference, as there was a 10.5 percent increase in the number of people who registered as donors during the time the commercials aired.
With more than 2,000 people on the transplant waiting list in Wisconsin, and more than 115,000 nationwide, this message is more important now than ever.
The OTD also worked with Charter Media to harness their next generation of powerful television advertising tools through their Charter on Demand programming option. Available to Charter cable subscribers on Channel 1, this option allows viewers to watch the video series at their own pace, gathering information from the comfort of their own homes. The eight-part video on organ donation takes us on a journey through the eyes of seven organ recipients and two people who are still waiting. From the real-life wait facing an Iraq veteran to a young mother who almost lost her first born, viewers will experience the power of one person's decision to become an organ donor.
We are thankful to partners like Charter Media who share their resources and expertise to help spread the word about the dire need for more organ donors. Charter's generosity included promotional advertisements on Charter.com and Charter Main Street that point people to the video, as well as remind them of the importance of the donor registry.
