Carol Hay received the prestigious Lions Eye Bank of Wisconsin Crystal Vision Award.Carol Hay, UW Organ and Tissue Donation (UW OTD) Outreach Coordinator, has received the prestigious Lions Eye Bank of Wisconsin Crystal Vision Award. The annual award is given to individuals or organizations that show extra effort and dedication to organ, tissue and eye donation.

Since receiving a kidney transplant in 2011, Carol has logged many volunteer hours speaking about donation at driver’s education classes across the state and staffing booths at donation events. Last year, she became co-chair of Donate Life Wisconsin’s Department of Motor Vehicle (DMV) Committee. Together, she and Co-Chair Mary Nachreiner of UW OTD led a team that created a two-year strategic plan to improve registration rates.

“My parents really influenced us as young children to be involved in our communities,” Carol says. “After receiving my transplant, I felt it was important to pay homage to my donor and his family, so I started volunteering two months later.”

In November 2015, Carol joined the UW OTD staff as a community outreach coordinator. In that role, she updated the volunteer certification process and initiated a “train-the-trainer” program with the UW OTD Hospital Development Team.

Carol joins the company of three other UW Health staff members who have received the award since it began in 2007: Kathy Schultz, senior marketing consultant for UW Health; Trey Schwab, outreach coordinator for UW OTD; and Mary Nachreiner, community/family services specialist for UW OTD.

Congratulations Carol!
