UW Health Physician Assistants Receive Prestigious Honors

MADISON - Two UW Health physician assistants have been named co-winners of the 2010 Physician Assistant of the Year award by the Wisconsin Academy of Physician Assistants (WAPA).

Lori Seaborne and Joanne Rash, both physician assistants in gynecologic oncology, were nominated by six physicians from the department of obstetrics and gynecology in a written statement submitted to WAPA.

"In the last two years, Lori and Joanne have combined forces to have a major impact on our division's efforts to increase community awareness of the issues related to gynecologic cancers as well as to improve our ability to raise funds allowing continued research in these areas at the University of Wisconsin," the physicians wrote. "These efforts allow us to continue to maintain and employ a research staff, both in our busy clinical trials office as well as in the basic science laboratory areas."

A native of Michigan, Seaborne graduated from UW-Madison with a degree in physician assistant studies. She has been with UW Health gynecologic oncology since 2003.

Rash, who was born in Mineral Point, earned her degree in physician assistant studies at UW-Madison in 2001. She has worked for UW Health since 2008.
