UW Health Neurosurgeon Named President of The Society of Neurological Surgeons

The Society of Neurological Surgeons is the senior society of leadership in North American neurosurgery and works to design all aspects of curriculum, education and professionalism in neurosurgery. Dr. Dempsey is particularly proud of the society's involvement in education.
"I'm a neurosurgical educator," Dempsey says. "My major contribution to neurological surgery is teaching, so at least for North America, this society is the center of that."
Dempsey hopes that throughout his presidency he will be able to bring more research and better curriculum to neurosurgery.
"We must do it better for the next generation," Dempsey says.
Dempsey is a nationally recognized expert on carotid endarterectomy. He also specializes in cerebrovascular surgery and neurosurgical management of intracranial aneurysms, arteriovenous vascular malformations of the brain and brain tumors.
"I'm very honored to be chosen," Dempsey says. "The society has had a long and distinguished line of leaders in this field."
