Steps for maintaining a healthy glow this winter

Winter weather can take its toll on our skin. Cold weather, low humidity and indoor heat can all draw moisture away from our skin. Maintain a healthy glow all season long with these tips from our skin care specialists.

Stay hydrated

Cold weather, low humidity levels, heated buildings, hormones, medications, saunas, hot tubs, whirlpools, swimming pools, caffeine and alcohol can dehydrate the skin so drink plenty of plain water. For detoxifying benefits add a little fresh lemon or lime juice. Your liver will love it!

Exfoliate

Help banish dull-looking skin by sloughing off the dead skin cells. Try a mild exfoliation or a gentle facial scrub with round jojoba beads. Want to kick it up a notch? Try a chemical form of exfoliation with hydroxy acid (AHA/BHA) cleansers and treatment creams with glycolic acid, lactic acid and salicylic acid, Retin-A and Retinol-based products. Better yet, treat your skin to a professional chemical peel treatment.

Moisturizer

We all need to moisturize - even individuals with oily skin. It's a matter of choosing the correct moisturizer. A key ingredient in binding water to the skin is hyaluronic acid. It acts as a natural humectant for the skin by adding hydration to the epidermis. This key ingredient holds 1,000 times its weight in water, maximizing the benefits of any daily moisturizer. It is ideal for all skin types and can be used frequently on all parts of the body - face, neck, chest, hands, feet, elbows and other rough or dry areas needing additional hydration. Perfect for airline travel!
