Welcome to UW Health's New Chief Executive Officer, Alan Kaplan, MD
UW Health welcomes its new Chief Executive Officer, Alan Kaplan, MD, who joined UW Health on May 2, 2016.
Dr. Kaplan is a nationally-renowned health care leader with a proven track record of leading large-scale clinical and cultural transformation, with a focus on care coordination.
Dr. Kaplan oversees the entire UW Health system. He provides strategic and administrative leadership for the full continuum of patient care, system development and for fulfilling its academic mission. Dr. Kaplan represents UW Health's policy and advocacy interests in the community, region and nation.
Since 2009, Dr. Kaplan worked at UnityPoint Health, an integrated multi-state health system based in West Des Moines, Iowa, serving as executive vice president and chief clinical transformation officer. He also was founder and president/CEO of UnityPoint Clinic and president/CEO of UnityPoint at Home.
Prior to joining UnityPoint Health, he served as vice president and chief medical officer at Edward Health Services Corp. (EHSC), a health-care system based in Naperville, Illinois.
Dr. Kaplan earned his medical degree from Rush University in Chicago in 1985, is board-certified in emergency medicine and earned a master's degree in medical management from Carnegie Mellon University in 2000.
He is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives and a fellow of the American Association of Physician Leadership, where he previously served as chairman of the board.
