Construction at UW Hospital and Clinics Begins Aug. 17, 2015

Madison, Wisconsin - Major construction projects that will expand the main parking ramp and improve hospital access will affect routes and parking at UW Hospital and Clinics starting August 17, 2015.

Construction projects include:

  • Highland Avenue Construction: From August 17, 2015 through August 30, 2016, Highland Avenue, the horshoe-shaped road that circles UW Hospital and Clinics and American Family Children's Hospital, will be under construction. Two-way traffic will be maintained during construction. However, lane closures may occur and cause delays. Please watch for posted signs and use caution.

  • Parking Ramp Expansion: From August 17, 2015 through November 2016, the UW Hospital and Clinics parking ramp (Lot 75) will be under construction to improve access and offer a more comfortable environment for our patients, visitors and staff. Upon completion the capacity will be 2,187 stalls (an increase of 767 spaces). The renovation will include new exits, wayfinding signage, stair towers and elevator. The ramp will remain open for patient and visitor parking during construction.

  • Hospital Entrance Closure: From August 27 to October 11, 2015, the UW Hospital entrance will be closed for renovation. Patients and families can use the Clinics entrance, located just north of the UW Hospital entrance, to enter the hospital.

UW Hospital and Clinics asks that patients and visitors use caution and watch for posted signs that direct you to any alternate entrances/exits to and from the parking ramp and changes to traffic flow. Valet, handicap-accessible drop-off and pick-up will be available for patients and families who need assistance.

Bus Stop Closure

For patients, visitors and staff who use Madison Metro Transit buses, stop 2916 will be removed during construction. The stop is on the west side of Highland Avenue, near the UW Hospital parking ramp and just south of Observatory Drive. Stop 2916 serves the popular 2 bus route, as well as routes 10 and 11 and 44.

Riders of these routes are encouraged to use stop 2349 at Highland Avenue and Marsh, near the Health Sciences Learning Center.
