Neurology Support Groups

UW Health organizes or helps to facilitate a number of support groups to help our neurology patients and their families and friends learn the best ways to meet their health challenges.

 

Moving Forward: Resources for People with Movement Disorders

  • About: Moving Forward is a monthly support and information group for people who suffer from Parkinson's disease, dystonia, tremor and other movement disorders. This free seminar series features topic experts to address questions about movement disorder-related subjects such as disease diagnosis, treatment and management, common concerns and caregiving options, case studies, patient stories and experiences, new research and developments, moving forward to your best life.
  • Location: Alliant Energy Center-Exhibition Hall, Mendota 5/6 Meeting Room, 1919 Alliant Energy Center Way, (Enter at main gate off Rimrock Road) Parking is free.
  • Meetings: 10 sessions, February through November, second Monday of the month from 6:30–8pm.

Fresh Start: Aneurysm, Stroke and Brain Injury Support Group

  • About: These sessions are a way for affected patients, families and friends to connect with others to help each other live their best lives. Open and honest discussions about recovery issues, roadblocks and solutions are the goal. UW Health staff will be there to facilitate and answer questions, but the group belongs to the participants.
  • Location: UW Health Arboretum Clinic
  • Meetings: Meets the third Thursday of every month.

Madison Area Stroke Support Group

  • About: The Madison Area Stroke Support Group is for people who are recovering from a stroke, and their families, friends and caregivers. Support group members help each other face and overcome common challenges through encouragement and sharing their experiences and knowledge. New members are warmly welcomed.
  • Meeting Time/Locations: Meets the third Wednesday of every month at the UW Health Rehabilitation Hospital or the first Wednesday of every month at UnityPoint Health-Meriter.

Madison Young Onset Parkinson's Support Group

  • About: This group is for young onset Parkinson's patients 40 years and younger, their families, and care support to gain information on Parkinson's disease through education and support from others.
  • Location: St. Marys Hospital, Room 1209, 700 S. Park St. Madison
  • Meetings: Meets quarterly, the first Thursday of the month from 6-7:15pm.

Parkinson's Disease Caregiver Support Group - Madison

  • About: An array of Parkinson's disease experts speak monthly about specifics of the disease and research developments. Family and friends of Parkinson's disease patients are also welcome to attend. Groups will be split up between persons with Parkinson's and care providers.
  • Location: Asbury United Methodist Church, 6101 University Ave., Madison
  • Meetings: Meets the third Wednesday of each month, 2:45-4pm

Parkinson's Disease Caregiver Support Group - Monona

  • About: An array of Parkinson's disease experts speak monthly about specifics of the disease and research developments. Family and friends of Parkinson's disease patients are also welcome to attend. Groups will be split up between persons with Parkinson's and care providers.
  • Location: Monona United Methodist Church, 606 Nichols Road, Monona
  • Meetings: Meets the first Wednesday each month from 2-4pm

Parkinson's Disease Caregiver Support Group - Stoughton

  • About: An array of Parkinson's disease experts speak monthly about specifics of the disease and research developments. Family and friends of Parkinson's disease patients are also welcome to attend. Groups will be split up between persons with Parkinson's and care providers.
  • Location: Stoughton Area Senior Center, 248 West Main Street, Stoughton
  • Meetings: Meets the fourth Wednesday each month from 1:30-3pm

Parkinson's Disease Caregiver Support Group - Sun Prairie

  • About: An array of Parkinson's disease experts speak monthly about specifics of the disease and research developments. Family and friends of Parkinson's disease patients are also welcome to attend. Groups will be split up between persons with Parkinson's and care providers.
  • Location: Colonial Club Senior Center, Therapy Room, 301 Blankenheim Lane, Sun Prairie
  • Meetings: Meets the fourth Wednesday each month from 1-2pm

Parkinson's Disease Caregiver Support Group - Waunakee

  • About: This group is for anyone who is affected by Parkinson's Disease. This includes those who have Parkinson's, their family members and care givers. The Parkinson's Disease Support Group provides a forum to meet other individuals with Parkinson's Disease, learn from speakers and talk about common issues and concerns.
  • Location: Waunakee Senior Center, 333 S. Madison St, Waunakee
  • Meetings: Meets the fourth Tuesday of each month at 2pm. If you plan to attend, please call the Waunakee Senior Center at (608) 849-8385 to register.
