Q. Why is green tea good for my skin?
A. Green tea has long been the staple of traditional Chinese medicine used to treat ailments on the skin as well as improve overall health. It has become very popular worldwide for its taste and the many health benefits it provides.
However, green tea is much more than just flavored water in a cup. Research has shown that when green tea is applied topically to the skin, it can help slow the process of aging skin, reduce blemishes and improve wrinkles.
The main reason green tea is so effective for skin is because of the high concentration of EGCG polyphenols, which act as antioxidants, as well as xanthines, which act as anti-irritants. Many studies have shown that topical application of green tea can reduce inflammation in acne or rosacea sufferers.
But in the past, green tea has been very difficult to stabilize, making it less effective in some skin care products. However, Young Pharmaceuticals has developed a green tea topical antioxidant solution called Tea Derma, available at UW Health Transformations Jeune Skin Care
Tea Derma has the purest form of EGCG, derived from green tea leaves. The solvent is very gentle and helps remove excess oil, debris and soap residue while leaving behind a thin film of active EGCG. Tea Derma Toner Pads ($29) include the most stable form of green tea due to the preparation of the solution on the same day of purchasing. At the time of dispensing, pure EGCG powder is added to a solution, resulting in the freshest, most stable green tea.
So put away those tea bags, and stop in at UW Health Transformations for Tea Derma, available from Young Pharmaceuticals. Stop by Transformations at 2349 Deming Way
