It Starts With You Planned Giving helps make a difference for the futureUW Health in Madison, Wisconsin offers patients a special kind of care; one that builds on collaborations between the care providers at the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics and the physician-scientists at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health.

Whether you wish to support programs and services for patients and their families, or shape the future by supporting the ongoing research that seeks to unravel the science behind disease, your gift can make a significant difference in the lives of many.

The University of Wisconsin Foundation is the official fundraising and gift-receiving organization for UW Hospital and Clinics, American Family Children's Hospital, the UW Carbone Cancer Center and the UW School of Medicine and Public Health. As you consider a long-term charitable gift, the Office of Gift Planning at the UW Foundation can assist with your needs.

Long-Term Charitable Gifts

Cash and shares of stock are the simplest ways to give and provide immediate benefits. If, however, you are considering a long-term charitable gift, inclusion of UW Health in your will or estate plan can help ensure that the most complex health care needs of the next generation will be met.

Through careful charitable planning with your attorney, financial advisor or the UW Foundation’s Office of Gift Planning, you can explore the options that best fulfill your wishes and financial goals.

Bequests in wills or living trusts, beneficiary designations, life insurance, gift annuities and even charitable trusts are all examples of deeply meaningful ways that you can create a philanthropic legacy and know that every dollar will be used to support programs and services that make a direct difference in the lives of our patients. Some deferred gifts are straightforward, such as a bequest. Others are more complex, providing current tax benefits as well as income for the donor, a beneficiary, or both. Depending on the arrangements you choose, you can also:

  • Reduce your income taxes
  • Avoid capital-gain tax
  • Increase your spendable income
  • Retain payments for life
