Gastrointestinal Problems During Pregnancy

The GI Pregnancy Clinic at UW Health in Madison, Wisconsin is a clinic dedicated to the treatment of gastrointestinal disorders in pregnancy.

New Patient Appointments

New patient appointments last about 40 minutes and follow-up visits are approximately 20 to 30 minutes long.

Patients may be seen by Sumona Saha, MD or Arnold Wald, MD.

Tests

Testing in the form of blood work, stool studies and radiologic exams will be ordered when necessary. Routine laboratory studies can generally be completed at the UW Health West Clinic. Patients may also require endoscopic examination or other forms of testing. This will be determined on a case-by-case basis.

Frequency of Visits

Patients may require follow-up for their condition during pregnancy. For patients who are already followed by a gastroenterologist, we will work closely with that provider to ensure seamless care during pregnancy. After the pregnancy, patients will generally return to their prior provider.

Patients who do not have their own gastroenterologist and who require continued services after pregnancy-related issues have resolved will have the opportunity to transition into the UW Health general gastroenterology clinic.

Insurance Coverage

Insurance coverage varies depending on your insurance carrier, so please call the number on the back of your insurance identification card to verify coverage and eligibility for these services.
