UW Health's Facial Nerve Clinic at UW Hospital and Clinics in Madison, Wisconsin, provides a multidisciplinary approach to diagnosing and treating facial paralysis in children and adults.

Dr. Chaiet is board certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology and dual fellowship-trained in both otolaryngology and facial plastic and reconstructive surgery. He leads the UW Health Facial Nerve Clinic and dedicates his practice to plastic and reconstructive surgery of the face and neck. His surgical areas of expertise for facial paralysis include: facelift, brow lift, static lift, rhinoplasty surgery and chemodenervation (e.g. Botox). Dr. Chaiet also studies the emotional and physical impact of facial paralysis using patient reported outcome measures.

Dr. Aaron Wieland, Associate Director, Facial Nerve Clinic

Dr. Wieland is board certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology. He specializes in treatment of head and neck cancer, voice and swallowing disorders, trauma, reconstruction and robotic surgery. Dr. Wieland is the Associate Director of the UW Facial Nerve Clinic and has expertise in nerve transfer procedures and gracilis muscle reanimation surgery for facial paralysis.

Kari McConnell serves as the Program Coordinator for the UW Health Facial Neve Clinic. She has over 35 years of nursing experience and is certified by The National Certifying Board of Otorhinolaryngology and Head-Neck Nurses. She has also served as President of the National Society of Otorhinolaryngology and Head-Neck Nurses (SOHN). She has a special interest in patients with facial nerve paralysis and is passionate about high quality care for this patient population.

Dr. Ahmed is board certified in neurological surgery. He specializes in surgery for complex skull base tumors (meningiomas, pituitary adenomas, and acoustic neuromas), cerebrovascular disorders and neuroendovascular surgery. He also works closely with ear, nose and throat physicians for endoscopic skull base surgery.

Dr. Baskaya is board certified in neurological surgery. He specializes in surgery for cerebral aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations, cavernous angiomas and revascularization for stroke such as carotid endarterectomy, bypass surgery, complex brain tumors with deep locations (gliomas and metastatic tumors). He treats tumors of the skull base such as meningiomas, acoustic neuromas and pituitary adenomas and partners with the UW Health Facial Nerve Clinic team.

Dr. Burkat is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and dual fellowship-trained in both ophthalmic plastic reconstructive surgery (ASOPRS Fellowship) and cosmetic facial surgery. She participates with the UW Health Facial Nerve Clinic team and specializes in blepharoplasty, brow lift, ectropion repair, eyelid weight placement, surgical repair of eyelids and tear ducts after facial paralysis, cosmetic eyelid surgery and laser and filler procedures. She has expertise in the treatment of blepharospasm and hemifacial spasm with individualized chemodenervation (e.g. Botox, Xeomin), and provides care to patients in Madison and Rockford, Illinois.

Dr. Lucarelli is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. He is ASOPRS fellowship-trained in Oculoplastic Surgery and has more than 20 years of experience in reconstructive and cosmetic eyelid surgery, brow and forehead lift, blepharoplasty, fillers and Botox, and procedures for upper facial paralysis. He has partnered with the UW Health Facial Nerve Clinic team for many years and has special expertise in chemodenervation (i.e. Botox) for synkinesis and other movement disorders of the face. Dr. Lucarelli sees patients in Madison and in Rockford, Illinois.
