About the treatment

What is liposuction?

Liposuction is a surgical procedure involving suction under your skin to remove excess fat and reshape areas of your body. We can use liposuction to contour your abdomen, hips, buttocks and thighs. It can also remove fat in your chin, cheeks, neck, knees and upper arms.

Who is liposuction for?

Liposuction is for people who are a healthy weight but have localized areas of fat that are difficult to eliminate.

What is the cost?

The cost of liposuction varies depending on how many areas of your body we treat. We discuss costs in detail during your initial consultation.

Treatment process

Fighting fat to create a new you

If you’re considering liposuction, you first meet with a doctor to discuss the procedure and your expectations. If you decide to proceed, a pre-surgery evaluation comes next.

During your procedure, here’s what you can expect:

  1. Your surgeon makes a small incision. The doctor delivers medication through the incision. This medicine shrinks blood vessels in the treatment area. It lessens bleeding and bruising and helps you avoid feeling pain.

  2. A thin tube is inserted. The tube is called a cannula, and it’s attached to a suction machine. Doctors pass the cannula to the area of excess fat.

  3. The fat is removed. With the suction machine turned on, the surgeon moves the cannula around to eliminate the excess fat.

  4. The surgeon closes your incision. Usually, this takes just a few stitches. If more than one area of your body will be treated, we repeat the above steps.

Liposuction is generally very safe. Like any surgery, however, it comes with certain risks. These include infection, bleeding, swelling, fluid retention and changes in the coloring of your skin. Reactions to anesthetic and irregularities in your body contour are possible.

After treatment

You might have some swelling, bruising and soreness after your surgery. These should improve within a few weeks. You can usually start light activities within a couple of days and return to work within a week or two. It’s possible to resume exercise after about a month.

With a good diet and exercise, the results of your procedure should be permanent.
