Overview
What is interventional pulmonology?
Breathing is something easy to take for granted. We usually don’t think about it; it just happens on its own. When breathing becomes difficult, however, we immediately notice it because it drastically impacts quality of life.
Unlike years ago, many lung and airway conditions now can be diagnosed and treated with minimally invasive procedures. These are done without surgery or a hospital stay. Doctors who specialize in interventional pulmonology can obtain tissue samples, remove blockages and treat tumors — all with the patient going home the same day. This means minimal pain, faster healing and less time waiting for results.
Not every health care center offers interventional pulmonology. UW Health is fortunate to be among the leading centers in the region with an expert team in this field. We work closely with doctors from related specialties, including thoracic surgery, ear, nose and throat, medical oncology, radiation oncology and others, to provide the most comprehensive care possible.
When you need us, we are ready to help you start breathing easier.
